Shot Finaling Work | Maya and The Three

My first ever industry job was as a Shot/Show Finaling Artist for the Netflix limited Series, Maya and The Three! Here's a collection of some of the shots I had the joy of working on. As a Shot Finaling Artist (SHF) our department was tasked with optimizing and preparing shots to send to Lighting.
Some regular tasks done through each shot/sequence were:
- Set Dressing - This involved placing extra props and assets (ex. rocks, pebbles, baskets, flowers, vines, etc.) throughout a scene as requested by the Art Director.
- Assembling VFX/CFX into shots - Our department was the set of "final eyes" to make sure previous department work was working correctly before sending it off for lighting. There was also a VFX Library the SHF team could grab assets such as impact dust, dirt, and sparks. We could grab these and place into shots as needed.
- Technical Animation - Fixing ground contact on floating characters, timing weapon glows, fixing penetrating geo, animating background assets
- Troubleshooting - Investigating into any technical issues shots had. This also involved maintaining communication with other departments if there were issues that involved their expertise. Solving problems and frequent communication with your team and other departments were the main aspect as a Shot Finaling Artist.

Working on this show was a joy and my team members made this job that much more enjoyable. If you get a chance, please check out Maya and the Three on Netflix!

This shot had a lot of motion blur issues, as well as broken constraints that I needed to fix.

The studio had created a VFX library where my dept could grab assets such as impact dust and dirt. For this shot I placed and timed those for Chimi's arrows.

For this shot, I placed pebble collections, as well as timing the ground cracks and sunflowers. I also set the timing of Lady Micte's venom glow and the sunflowers glow.
